“I am saddened to learn that Edgar Tamayo, a Mexican national, has been executed in Texas. The British Government opposes the death penalty in all circumstances. We also take the issue of consular notification very seriously. Like Secretary of State John Kerry, we were concerned that the Mexican authorities were not notified of Mr Tamayo’s arrest, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular relations.”

Editor's Note: Edgar Arias Tamayo was in the United States illegally. He had already served time in jail for robbery, in California, when he decided to shoot (three times) and murder a policeman in Texas instead of taking his chances following his latest arrest for armed robbery. He was not informed of his right to speak to someone from his embassy, meaning that he received the same judicial opportunities as any other American citizen. Justice served.
