As part of its Honduras engagement plan, U.S. Southern Command’s Human Rights Office sponsored a dialogue for senior Honduran military personnel and influential human rights nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).

The dialogue, held in Tegucigalpa April 29–30, included the participation of U.S Ambassador to Honduras Lisa Kubiske, Honduran Minister of Defense Samuel Reyes Rendón and Honduran chief of the Joint Staff, General Fredy Santiago Díaz Zelaya. The participants gathered for the group photo above.

The dialogue promoted reconciliation and fostered a more productive working relationship between the Honduran military and human rights NGOs, Southern Command said in a May 12 press release.

At the end of the two-day event, dialogue participants presented concrete action plans to Ambassador Kubiske and General Díaz showing ways to improve collaboration and cooperation on mutual human rights and citizen security concerns.
