Attorney Appoints 3 New Senior Treasury Counsel


Timothy Cray, Duncan Penny and Sarah Whitehouse have been appointed as Senior Treasury Counsel (Criminal), at the Central Criminal Court

The Attorney General, Dominic Grieve QC MP, has appointed Timothy Cray, Duncan Penny and Sarah Whitehouse as Senior Treasury Counsel (Criminal) to the Crown at the Central Criminal Court. Treasury Counsel prosecute some of the most serious criminal cases in the country.

All 3 are leading criminal practitioners and prosecute very serious criminal cases, including murder, terrorism, corruption, sexual offence and fraud. Mr Penny was recently named ‘Crime Junior of the Year’ by Chambers UK. Miss Whitehouse is ranked as a Leading Junior in Band 1 (Crime) and Mr Cray practices at the highest level of criminal litigation.

The Attorney General said:

"Senior Treasury Counsel play an important role in the criminal justice system in that they prosecute some of the most serious offences tried in this country. I am confident that in appointing Timothy Cray, Duncan Penny and Sarah Whitehouse as Senior Treasury Counsel we are further strengthening the ability of the prosecutors to ensure the guilty are brought to justice."

Mr Richard Whittam QC is First Senior Treasury Counsel and heads the team of 10 Senior and 7 Junior Treasury Counsel.

They took up their posts on 1 January 2014
