Mr Matthew James Lodge has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the State of Kuwait in succession to Mr Frank Baker, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Lodge will take up his appointment during September 2014.

Mr Lodge joined the FCO in 1996. His FCO career has focussed on Europe and the Middle East, involving work on conflict and security issues (including Afghanistan and Iraq) and postings in Tbilisi, Athens, Paris, and the UK EU Representation in Brussels. Mr Lodge has served as HM Ambassador to Finland (2010-2013) and Deputy Head of Mission in Baghdad, Iraq (2007). Prior to joining the FCO, Mr Lodge spent 10 years as an officer in the Royal Marines.

On his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the State of Kuwait, Mr Lodge has said:

"I am honoured and privileged to be appointed as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the State of Kuwait. The United Kingdom and Kuwait enjoy very close ties and strong historical, business, social and cultural connections. I look forward to building on those strong foundations."
