FCO minister for the Middle East, Hugh Robertson, said:

"I welcome the adoption of UNSC resolution 2140 which provides for the use of sanctions against those seeking to derail Yemen’s political transition.

"Today’s resolution, based on a UK draft, sends a clear message to those wanting to block Yemen’s progress to a better future: attempts to derail the process will result in swift and firm action from the international community, including targeted sanctions and asset freezes.

"I would particularly like to commend the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council for its continuing support for the Yemeni transition."
