Mr Keefe joined the FCO in 1982 and has spent much of his career developing British and EU relations with the countries of Eastern and Central Europe. After a Cold War posting in Prague, he returned there as the Czech Republic was preparing to join the EU and NATO.

As Ambassador in Tbilisi he worked to integrate Georgia into Euro-Atlantic structures and deal with long-standing conflicts, before moving to Moscow as Deputy Head of Mission covering the full range of regional and international issues.

He has also worked in Africa and on the Far East, and at the Cabinet Office.

On his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Serbia, Mr Keefe has said:

I am delighted to be taking up this challenge as Serbia begins negotiations to join the European Union.

I look forward to working with the Serbian government and people as Serbia modernises its economy, society and institutions and integrates into the European family.

2014 is also the year in which we commemorate the outbreak of the First World War, reminding us of the history that we share. I look forward to strengthening the links between us.
