Megan Stammers appears to have done a runner with her Maths teacher, Jeremy Forrest, after the pair went missing five days ago. Reports have them landing at Calais, France, Friday afternoon, after they were photographed boarding a cross-Channel ferry his Ford Fiesta with the registration GJ08 RJO.
Megan is just 15 and her teacher is 30 years old and recently married, so it would appear the two have eloped and their departure isn't a sanctioned maths' project.
But all snickering aside, I've been reading the reports on this breaking story since Friday evening but I haven't read an article (yet) that sets out the obvious fact that Forrest should be the subject of an Interpol red notice.
The age of consent in England and Wales is 16 regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender, as specified by the Sexual Offences Act 2003. However, if person A is over the age of 18 and is in a position of trust to person B who is under the age of 18, it is illegal for A to engage in sexual activity with B.
So regardless of their presumed love for one another, Jeremy should be arrested on sight.
