As one of the world’s largest distributors of office supplies, Lyreco has an extensive global network that supports staff and encourages innovation. Lyreco Australia’s Managing Director Bryn Sharp has been leading the company since 2011, and says he’s always focused on driving cultural change.

“My goal for Lyreco is to be a company where people can be mentored, coached, and feel that they’re heard. If they are motivated to come to work and have fun, then we can apply the growth strategy and the profit strategy I’m looking for. I am very clear in my expectations from our delivery drivers to the leadership team. Once aligned, we work better to achieve our goals.

“I enjoy challenging our team day to day. Driving a better culture internally for the benefit of our customers and seeing the effect of that through hard work, determination, and focus is very rewarding. I advocate a very clear work ethic in terms of work–life balance and encourage a very collaborative and engaging approach to all our team. It’s like finetuning a racing car: all the elements of what you manage need to be running simultaneously and in sync to get the required results. I can be tough but fair. If you are approachable and engaging, then you can achieve anything.”

Bryn’s focus on Lyreco’s staff has produced amazing results for his team. “I’m a people person, and culture is very important to me,” stresses Bryn. “I ask a lot of questions around culture and employees, because I believe culture comes from the person at the top. I want to be able to ensure my collaborative style of management will get the best people. I have an adage which goes: ‘People are the best asset in a company, but they don’t show on the balance sheet’. I still believe that.
