The single largest infrastructure project in South Australia’s history, the new Royal Adelaide Hospital will be Australia’s most advanced hospital.
This state-of-the-art facility will be delivered as a public–private partnership under the state government’s Partnership SA Model, forming part of the reformed South Australian health system. The new facility will provide world-class care for the people of South Australia.
The SA Health Partnership Consortium—comprising Hansen Yuncken, Leighton Contractors, Macquarie, and Spotless—will undertake the financing, design, construction and operation of the non-clinical services of the hospital for 35 years. The Hansen Yuncken – Leighton Contractors Joint Venture (HYLC) will be responsible for the design and construction of this landmark project.
Chris Pratt, development director of the joint venture, has been in the construction industry for 32 years and has played a vital role in bringing together a team of companies to deliver this ground-breaking project. Chris says his extensive experience in delivering health projects has been essential in his current role.
“I became aware of the project a long time ago and initiated the business case for Hansen Yuncken to pursue the project,” he says. “As one of the founding people in our consortium, I ran the bid for the design and construction element. I’ve been on the project now for around four years.
“This is my home town and I do believe that when we put our minds to it, South Australians do a pretty good job and we do it in our own way. I think it’s important for a South Australian organisation to run what is the biggest social infrastructure project in our state’s history. It’s also an opportunity that doesn’t come along often in your career.”
