Andrew Briggs has been in the construction industry since 1978. Since buying Buxton Construction from the Buxton family, he has brought a wealth of practical and professional experience to his role as Managing Director.
“I first joined the business in 1994. At that stage the company was a small organisation with about five or six staff, doing predominantly family-based developments and small projects. I had some background in commercial building, so I started to branch out into the competitive tender market,” he recalls.
“We’ve grown from there and we’ve been going through changes to our building structures and systems to continue the advancement of the business. It has moved into some speciality fields: in particular, the leisure and hospitality market which is now one of our main areas of expertise. We assist our clients through the development experience, and work with them through the early phases to add value to their projects.”
Continuing the company’s reputation for quality and delivery, Buxton Construction has recently added some major developments to its portfolio.
Andrew notes: “We completed a mixed-use development in Hawthorn East on Camberwell Road just over a year ago. That was a $24-million project consisting of 44 apartments and 4,000 square metres of office space over five levels. We have also built some retirement-living apartments for Stocklands out at Gowanbrae.
“We’re currently working on the Sandyhill Apartments development at Bay Road, Sandringham and a project for the RSPCA, an $18-million administration building which includes new dog kennels. We have just finished two new training facilities: one for the Richmond Football Club’s Tigers at Punt Road Oval, and the other for St Kilda at Seaford.”
