Preston never envisaged himself living in Australia, but he didn’t reject the idea when it came up. An integral part of Preston’s career strategy is his determination to learn and grow as an executive, enhance his skill sets, and bring them to bear upon the tasks set before him. So when Preston was tapped to relocate to Australia and take the helm of Warner Bros Consumer Products Australia and New Zealand, he was ready for it.

Preston has made it his mission to build a career, not just work at a job, and he emphasises this when interviewing potential employees as well. “When you are focused on building a career, you’re always looking at how to be better and how to increase your skills and knowledge,” states Preston. “This commitment will in turn lead to career growth and opportunities, even if it means moving around a little bit” – or moving across the world!

Embracing change is therefore at the forefront of Preston’s business philosophy. “I do believe it is critical that you truly love change,” highlights Preston. “You can’t be afraid of it, because the reality of the business world is that change is going to happen. And the best executives drive change, face it head on, and help it happen.”

Growing up in Connecticut on the north-east coast of America, Preston started his entertainment career at HBO in the home video division in New York. “After six exciting and growth-filled years, however, I wanted to expand my knowledge base beyond video, so I moved to a position where I could gain experience in multiple product areas. Licensing allowed me to do this across publishing, electronics, apparel, et cetera. So my next job was at the licensing division of MTV, MTV Program Enterprises.”
